Walsall Council is encouraging borough residents to check out a special website encouraging local people to play a key part in history.
The interactive site www.walsallfor2012.co.uk has been created by Walsall Council and is packed with all the latest information about the Olympic Torch Relay which is coming through the borough on Saturday June 30th.
An online map of the route enables residents to see which streets the torch will be passing through. There is also detailed information on events and celebrations taking place on the day, which is updated regularly. Traffic information and advice will be added to the site shortly.
Organisations, clubs, sports groups, schools, local businesses and residents are being urged to contribute to the website by sending in details of any local events which are being held on the day to mark this historic occasion.
Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Dennis Anson, said: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our residents to see the Olympic Torch come through our borough and to celebrate sport in our towns and villages.
“We want everyone to get involved, both young and old, and to really get into the spirit of it. There is so much going on in the borough to mark the occasion, activities which cater for all tastes and abilities.”
Councillor Anthony Harris, cabinet member for leisure and culture at Walsall Council, said: “This website is fantastic because it enables residents to find out about everything which is happening in the borough as well as the important traffic and safety advice.”
