Police warn of rat-scam rip-off

Catch a Rat

Police in Walsall are warning residents to be wary of a bogus ‘rat catcher’ operating in the area.

So far two addresses, one in Wolverhampton Road, Pelsall and the other in Bell Lane, Bloxwich, have been targeted by the so called pest controller.

On each occasion the con man has approached the resident at their home address and convinced them their gardens are infested with rats and that he could fix the problem for a sum of money.

After receiving the money the man has left without carrying out any work.

The man is described as white, between 30 to 40 years of age and approximately 6ft tall.  He has dark hair and was wearing dark clothing.

DC Stephen Foxhall, from the Force Criminal Investigation Unit, warns residents not to fall for this con.   He said: “Legitimate contractors will not cold call like this.  This is quite clearly a scam and people should not hire anyone without checking they are legally registered and a contract or receipt of work has been exchanged.”

Anyone who has been a victim of this crime or has any information to help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact force CID at Bloxwich on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
