Reading groups based at libraries across Walsall are encouraging more people to join their ranks and enjoy the chance to share their favourite novels with fellow book lovers and attend special events.
Groups tend to meet fortnightly or monthly and are held at various libraries across the borough. Clubs range from book reading groups to a poetry group and telephone book clubs for the blind and partially sighted and home library users.
The next event for group members is a readers day with guest authors Miranda Dickinson and Orlando Wysocki at Bookmark Bloxwich on 24 November.
Miranda dreamed of writing books from an early age and recently published her third novel It Started With A Kiss while her first book Fairytale of New York was a Sunday Times bestseller.
Orlando Wysocki has just published his first novel The Cleaving of Paycocke’s. Described as mystery fiction it tells the tale of an antiques book dealer whose wife leaves him and opens up a whole can of worms as she hints that he has a secret and rather creepy past.
Sonia Dixon, adult library services co-ordinator, said: “Reading groups are a great way for like minded people to come together and share their favourite books and works of poetry with each other.
“Every year we offer our reading group members the chance to attend a special event such as the one on November 24 where they can interact with members of groups from other libraries and meet some special guests.”
Most of the reading groups have spaces for new members. More details can be found by logging on to www.walsall.gov.uk/libraries or check with your individual library for details.
